I had lost all four of my grandparents by the time I had first met Grandpa Miller. I felt I loved him instantly. Dave and I went and stayed with him for a number of days, and he took amazing care of us.
ReplyDeleteHe cooked us breakfast every morning, and helped us to map out our days in Oregon.
We had since visited him a number of times, and I grew to love him more with each visit. I felt he fast became a grandparent to me.
I was so saddened to hear of his passing, and miss him. I am so sad that I will never see him again here in the physical world.
We love you so much Grandpa!
With love,
Jen Hodder
I just now looked up Dr. Miller and was very sad to see that he passed away a couple of years ago. I was a student of his at SOU from 1978-1982 and partly because of him, I decided to major in history. Dr. Miller's love for his subject inspired me to a lifelong love of history as well, especially the history of the West.
ReplyDeleteI went on to take some graduate classes under Dr. Miller, which mostly included doing extra research as SOU didn't technically have graduate history classes. Anyway, I got to know him quite well and I thought he was a wonderful person and teacher. He gave of his time unfailingly to students.
I remember how he used to come to class and give the most detailed lectures, all form a few notes on dog-eared scraps of paper-notes he never even looked at.
I'm very glad to know he had a family who loved him so much!
